School activities
Throughout my years in school, I have had the opportunity to be an active member of various sports teams, clubs, and organizations. I have gained many valuable skills through these activities including teamwork, communication, and time-management that I will be able to utilize in my day-to-day life as a graphic designer.
Future Business Leaders of America-Local Involvement
I joined FBLA as a freshman in high school and I have been an active member of my chapter ever since. I have held two officer positions within my local chapter: Webmaster and Vice President of Public Relations. Each of these offices have provided me with valuable graphic design experience.

I was selected as Webmaster of my local chapter as a junior and I immediately noticed that our website hadn't been updated in many years and it was lacking visual appeal. I decided to create a brand new website which featured our meeting minutes, updated pictures, and highlighted our chapter officers. I was able to gain experience in website design by taking the initiative to create an entirely new website.

As Vice President of Public Relations I have taken over the Elmwood-Murdock FBLA Instagram account where I post reminders, opportunities to get involved, and updates on chapter projects for our members to see. I have been able to improve my skills in social media promotion by running our chapter's account. This skill will be beneficial to future graphic design projects that are meant to promote products or events.
Future Business Leaders of America-State Involvement
When I attended the 2018 Fall Leadership Conference I was introduced to an exciting new opportunity offered by the state officer team: State Executive Committees. I was interested in the position of Media Director because of the graphic design opportunities that it had to offer. I was selected to fill the Media Director position on the Progress Committee where I have been able to work with the current FBLA state president, Alek Timm, and state secretary, Morgan Mills, as well as members from other chapters who are also a part of the Progress Committee. This opportunity has been extremely valuable in making a solid graphic design foundation for myself. I have been able to work within a group setting in order to come up with ideas and then work independently on making them come to life which is a process that I will often use when I become a professional in the graphic design field.
Sports Teams
Being a four-year member of varsity volleyball and basketball teams taught me the importance of self confidence, teamwork, and cooperation. Athletics have shown me the significance of being an influential leader and encouraging communication between team members. I have also learned that self confidence is important to both individual success and the success of the team as a whole. Over the past four years, it has become apparent that cooperation is one of the most important qualities for a team or group to possess. Without teamwork and cooperation, tasks are more time consuming and the end result isn't as great as it could be. I am glad that I have learned these lessons early on and that all of them are applicable to my career in graphic design.
Student Council / Advisory Board
I have been an active member of my school's student council and advisory board for the entirety of my high school career. Working within this organization has given me opportunities to make a difference in my school by talking with administrators about the changes that students want to see. I have been able to see first hand how communication and leadership can impact a group through making these changes happen for my peers. I will be able to bring these lessons with me into my graphic design career in order to bring positive improvements to my work environment.
